The Nutcracker Prince – free story

Recently I stumbled across something I wrote way back in high school: a fantasy retelling of The Nutcracker. It’s inspired by the ballet, of course, but also heavily influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, which I was really into at the time. It’s not my favorite bit of writing, but it’s kind of cute, so I’ve decided to post it serially on FanFiction.net in case someone else gets a kick out of it. 😉

If you like, you can find Chapter One here. There are eleven chapters total; I’ll be adding one a day from now until Christmas!

12/23/19 EDIT: Events have overtaken me, and I’ve been unable to post a chapter a day as planned… however, I will have it all posted & complete by the end of Christmas week. 🙂

Thanks! 🙂 It is pretty light on violence or action for that matter. Most of the LOTR inspiration is in the tropes, hehe.

You seriously wrote this in high school?! It’s wonderful. I’m going to try to read it all before December 31st. With my The Iliad read-along prep going on, it might be a feat but I was drawn in already by the first two paragraphs. Brava!

Aw thank you Cleo!! I’m making some edits as I post it, but for the most part it’s from my younger self’s imagination. 😳 I’m planning to get the rest of it up this evening or tomorrow…
