Sunshine Blogger Award Rules

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

The Questions

  1. Fantasy or sci-fi? – Sci-fi because I enjoy the direct intersection with real-world stuff.
  2. Tragedy or comedy? – Comedy! I say that after having read The Metamorphosis for the 5th time and trying to suppress tears for poor old Gregor, even though I knew exactly what was going to happen. I guess I tend to watch comedy and read tragedy. In general I have a lower tolerance for drama these days (got enough of my own haha).
  3. Fiction or nonfiction? – Fiction
  4. Snow or rain? – I’m one of those weirdos who absolutely adores rain.
  5. Orange juice or apple juice? – OJ
  6. Christmas or Easter? – Easter—or as Tolkien put it, “the eucatastrophe of the story of the Incarnation.” On a selfish/personal note…I prefer Easter because it has all of the joy, none of the holiday blues I can’t seem to avoid at Christmas.
  7. Middle-earth or Narnia? – Hm… I love ME, but I think Narnia is more of a fun and charming place. Given the choice, I’d rather live there.
  8. Marvel or DC? – I’ve yet to get into superhero comics or movies…
  9. Star Wars or Star Trek? – So…I’ve only watched A New Hope (twice) and The Empire Strikes Back (once). I literally fell asleep during the second one. So I don’t know if I’m a good judge of Star Wars yet. However, I could watch Star Trek TNG any day, or TOS for that matter. Even Into Darkness and Beyond, though in many ways atrocious, were pretty fun to watch. I love the characters, types of plotlines, and psychological themes. The Cold War influence also checks off the history box for me.
  10. Old movies or new movies? – Quality being equal—intelligent script, not too much CGI, good acting, good score, etc—I prefer new movies. Modern filmmakers can do so much more, technically speaking, and there’s more mediums to influence or challenge them to higher quality (I’m thinking YouTube here). My top 3 films from last year were all pretty recent. However, what I most miss about old movies are those crazy long epics with Intermission in the middle, with basically a whole symphony for a movie score. I think we need to bring those back.
  11. Old books or new books? – I’ve been reading more new books lately, but I still prefer old. ^_^

  2. I can’t believe you prefer orange juice to apple juice! Smh. 😉 This looked too fun to pass up, and since I don’t have a blog I’ll answer the questions here:

    1. If you go back and read one book for the first time again, which would it be? – Dracula! I really enjoyed the whats-going-to-happen-next and adventure in that story.
    2. Do you eat ice cream, and if so, what is your favorite flavor? – Anything chocolate.
    3. What was the most memorable event or concert you ever attended? – Owl City concert in 2018.
    4. What do you like best about yourself? – My love for beauty.
    5. Is there a book you would never, ever read? – Fifty Shades of Grey.
    6. Second-best way to spend a rainy day? (Reading is the best, right?) – I beg to differ. 🙂 The best way is watching a film while curled up in a blanket.
    7. Cats or dogs? – Both for different reasons.
    8. Best pizza topping combo? – White sauce, chicken, and tomatoes.
    9. If you could recommend one fictional book, what would it be? – Maybe the Hobbit.
    10. Earliest reading memory? – Don’t remember.
    11. What’s something you’re looking forward to this year? – Growing a dahlia garden!

    Thanks, Marian! 🙂

    1. Yeah, Dracula is a great choice!! I would probably choose that one, too, cause it was such a surprise.
      OJ is clearly superior. 😆

Hey, I LOVE rain, too. It’s not weird. (Then again, it only rains about 3 times a year where I live.)
I’ve not gotten into the superheroes comics or movies either. The rest of my family LOVES them, one over the other; but, yeah, I cannot get into them.
    Ditto on the new films!

I’ll answer your questions on my blog this week. (God willing!!)

    1. Those sound like wonderful concerts! I don’t know when or if classical concerts are coming back, but I’m hoping maybe to see an outdoor one this year.

Oh man! Are you a Freddy the Pig fan, too? You know the author was from Rome, New York where I lived until I was eight years old. So wonderful to find out the funny things you have in common with others.

Hmm…I’m having problems commenting on your blog. So yesterday I commented here and I said that I enjoyed rain, too….(but it only rains about 3 times a year where I live). Anyway I answered your questions over at my blog. Then I commented today on your new post…and the comment doesn’t look like it posted. 😦 It is possible that my comments are going to WP spam. It seems to happen a lot.

  8. Falling asleep during Empire Strikes Back? Oh, how fanboys would weep to read that. XD

I tend to agree on both Narnia and Rain. Middle-earth is more dangerous in general, I think, whereas Narnia has…direct supervision from Aslan. Sure, he’s rarely THERE, but he’ll show up if things are bad enough.

    1. Exactly! I feel I have a breath of a chance at surviving Narnia. 😀

You know, Marian. I love Easter. It hit me this season, that whether Jesus Christ was actually born in December doesn’t matter. I think the reason the Church celebrates it then is because He was born in a dead, cold world (spiritually speaking) and yet his death occurred when the earth is born anew. I don’t think that was an accident. The world was dead when he was born and it was offered life with his death. I think that’s so cool.

I love Christmas, probably best, but Easter is pretty great. Of course, I’m just all round an holiday (a happy holiday person, Halloween isn’t NOT my thing).

    – If you go back and read one book for the first time again, which would it be?
    – This is hard, I’ll go with Eagle of the Ninth although there are several contenders
    – Do you eat ice cream, and if so, what is your favorite flavor?
    – Kroger Private Selection Chocolate Ganache, super dark and creamy!
    – What was the most memorable event or concert you ever attended?
    – I don’t do many things. Maybe seeing the traveling Broadway Phantom of the Opera. That was my very first introduction and at the height of the resurgence of its popularity when the movie came out.
    – What do you like best about yourself?
    – My thirst for knowledge
    – Is there a book you would never, ever read?
    – More like a genre, horror
    – Second-best way to spend a rainy day? (Reading is the best, right?)
    – Reading is definitely the best, maybe crafts and board games are next
    – Cats or dogs?
    – Cats but dogs are nice too, I’m just a basic cat girl
    – Best pizza topping combo?
    – Meat lover with sausage, bacon, etc. But we also had flat bread pizza with fresh mozarella and spinach and pesto I think which was surprisingly good since I don’t love those toppings.
    – If you could recommend one fictional book, what would it be?
    – I’d have to cheat and say a trilogy and related duology. Knife, Rebel, Arrow and Swift and Nomad by RJ Anderson. They are SO, SO underrated. They are about traditional British isle faeries (the basis for Tolkien’s elves NOT Disney fairies) in modern Britain.
    – Earliest reading memory?
    – Mom reading the books in 5 in a Row. Dad reading the Kirsten books to me, I think I was about 6 or 7, I was a late reader.
    – What’s something you’re looking forward to this year?
    – Moving out on my own and getting more independent.

    1. Ok, I seriously need to read Eagle of the Ninth – it’s been on my radar a while and sounds really good!

I loooove Private Selection ice cream. Could use some right now. AND the pizza you described. 😮

That is so cool you got to see POTO! I’ve watched it on DVD, but live is on my unofficial bucket list.
