I have the Shatner album on spotify. It’s good, if irreverent. I think Shatner adequately captures the angst of the era. Really screeches his soul out. 😉
I have not heard the Dylan version before, it’s good. However, I love the harmonies in the Byrds version. It’s actually my favorite.

The Byrds was the version I grew up with, still love it! 🙂 This original I found a few days ago, and I can’t get enough of the lyrics.

I have a digital copy of an album that he and Nimoy contributed to — with various offerings, ranging from Nimoy’s recitation of “Desiderata” to Shatner’s performance of the St. Crispin’s Day speech — in adddition to songs like “Highly Illogical” and of course Shatner’s unique renditions of Mr. Tamborine Man and a few others. Always amusing to run across.

Have you seen the video (it’s on Youtube) of Leonard Nimoy singing a Hobbit song? It is definitely a product of the sixties and proves the Nimoy was very good at one thing…and singing wasn’t it.
