Oh man, it's a shame you couldn't get through The Kill. The ending further gives the idea of lacking morality. It was interesting to see how they ignored part of the family, I even sensed he might be hinting on gender discrimination? I've decided to read the whole series chronologically and I highly recommend you give the first one a try. There is a great difference in his earlier works and later ones. I believe as time went by he grew as a writer. Oh yeah, just a heads up, if you do intend to read more Zola, skip his 5th book; The sin of father Mouret, because it does contain the same type of scenes as the kill when it comes to the characters sex life. Great podcast, really enjoyed your thoughts on Zola. Will definitely check some more.Cheers.
