📝 Christmas Reading Check-In

My break draws to an end, but there is still plenty of time to read left! Here is where I am at so far…

Finished

Look at Me by Anita Brookner – I did a deep dive of this novel on YouTube. Wasn’t planning to, but I think it deserved it. Definitely a downer, so YMMV.

Dune part I by Frank Herbert – I knew what was going to unfold, but the last chapter was still quite moving. 💔 Nigel and I will be recording an update on this soon.

The Unwomanly Face of War by Svetlana Alexievich – Review coming soon. This is one of those books that leaves a lasting mark on your memory.

In Progress

Daniel Deronda by George Eliot – I haven’t made any official commitment to reading this book, but I am now in chapter 3 or 4 and really enjoying it.

The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins (reread) – Technically I haven’t started it beyond opening the cover and looking at the table of contents, but I plan to start it for reals this evening. We just finished watching the 2018 adaptation, which I gave 3.5 out of 5 stars. It had a lot of good points and some big flaws as well. Still I’m glad I watched it, and it has given me some things to look out for as I reread the book.

I have not yet picked up Kristin Lavransdatter III or my namesake The Unconsoled. I think I may try to marathon through TWIW over the weekend, and then we shall see.

  2. Always a tempting reread. Lavransdatter.
I have read and watched The Woman in White. I don’t remember how I felt about the adaptation. I share nicknames with you, LOL. Please oh please, let me know if you read The Unconsoled. Daniel Derodonda reminded me of Never Let Me Go, it’s mentioned there. I always wanted to read Dune and the woman author of that War book.

I seriously think I should read those two books this 2023.

    1. Here’s to a more “consoling” 2023! And yes, I have so many chunksters lined up for January but I do hope to squeeze The Unconsoled in…
