It’s really unlikely I’ll get to all of these, but here’s my hopes and dreams:
To Be Completed
The Oresteia – Aeschylus. Yesterday I finally started the last play, The Eumenides. Am I supposed to dislike the Furies? They seem pretty boss.
Ends and Means – Huxley. By the end of this, I’ll be either ready to run for office or build a Thoreauesque mountain hermitage.
To Be Continued
Dune – Herbert. #desertpower
To Read
My very large stacks of books from two (!) libraries, from Truman Capote to alien accounts. Yes, I have a problem.
A Farewell to Arms – Hemingway (July readalong). My encounters with Hemingway’s short works have been a mixed bag. I feel like I have to try one of his novels, though.
More short stories by Lu Xun (July Reading the World cont’d, added 7/2)
Light in August – Faulkner (August readalong).
A Study in Scarlet – Doyle (August readalong with Cyberkitten, added 7/2)
East of Eden – Steinbeck (August-September readalong, Reading the World “US, take 2”).
Just realized all of this is American lit. #partyintheUSA
As Time Permits
Reading the World – Noli Me Tángere by Rizal, from the Philippines.
Transit – Seghers. This book started with thriller pacing and has slowed to slice-of-life gadding-about in occupied France. I still like it and plan to finish it.
Dracula – Stoker (reread, readalong).
What’s on your summer reading list?
