Hour 11
Hour 7
Joining late, but better late than never! I always like to start things out with the Getting to Know You Survey:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
A damp, foggy morning in the Pacific Northwest. (Sometimes I like to pretend it’s England.)
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
There’s never a dull moment with Wodehouse. However, I’m also eager to finish rereading Lord of the Flies.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Always ill-prepared, I don’t have any special snacks. 😦 Hot drinks are a must, though. I’m sure I’ll be reaching for the Alpine Apple Cider before the day’s done!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I write code for high-availability systems (online 24/7) which is at times highly stressful but also very satisfying. Literature is my first love, though, and if I could make a living off of reading books of my choice, I probably would.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
This is my fourth readathon! My goal this year is to read a ton of different things and not try to finish any one book, except maybe Lord of the Flies. I’ll also take lots of breaks and probably work on my podcast as well, so it’ll be a much milder, more relaxing readathon this year.

I was thinking I might have some hot cocoa today, but I'm in Arizona and we're having a minor summer resurgence. Sunny and 90F isn't quite the bookish weather I was hoping for! Have a great readathon!

90 degrees, wow! Maybe an iced latte or tea would be in order. 🙂 Last Readathon in April, I was making Peach Green Tea Lemonade, my favorite summer-y beverage…

I'd never heard of this before! How late do you intend on staying up? In theme it reminds me of NaNoWriMo's events…I think towards the end of that month, like week three of November, there's an all-day writefest where people just write as much as they can in that one day. Nothing I've ever done. Nanowrimo interest in my area is anemic at best.

It goes from 5am to 5am PST. This year I'm taking it easy, so will probably just stay up till midnight or so. I love Nanowrimo, too, and hope to participate this year. The trick with that, though, is to get ahead early and often. 😉

I haven't read Lord of the Flies for a long time. Probably since high school. Good luck with the rest of the readathon 🙂

Thanks, you too! LOTF is a different experience later in life, for sure.

found out about this too late, but we were probably asleep anyway, as the dense fog is making us somnolent … nice to see the sun in the afternoon, tho… (we're in NW Oregon)

Sounds like the same weather all right! I usually like fog, but I'll be glad to see the end of it.
