The 10-Year Book Tag (2023 edition)

I saw this on Cyberkitten’s blog, and it seemed like a fun one!

What was your favourite book in 2013? A book I gave 5 stars was Sylvie and Bruno Concluded. The Sylvie & Bruno duology is one of the strangest series I’ve ever read, but I did enjoy it!

What is your favourite book of 2023 (so far)? Probably The Power and the Glory, although I also loved The Moon Is Down.

What was your least favourite book in 2013? The Sorrows of Young Werther. Oh, how I loathed that book! And I consider myself a Romantic.

What is a book published in 2013 that you still want to read? The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton. Admittedly, mostly for that cover art. 😛

What is the book published (to be published) in 2023 you want to get before 2024? I have Andrew Yang’s The Last Election sitting on my shelf. I’m a bit burned out from politics, but it would be nice to read it before the end of the year.

What is a genre you used to read a lot of that you don’t read as much of anymore? I used to spend much of my time in the 19th century. More recently, I’ve been focused in the 20th century. It’s been good to get out of my comfort zone!

What is a new genre you’ve discovered since 2013? Autofiction! I’ve read WG Sebald’s Rings of Saturn, Panorama by Slovenian author Dušan Šarotar, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce.

What is a reading or book habit you are hoping to leave behind in this decade? Like Cyberkitten, I want to read faster, like I used to!

What is a new reading goal or habit you want to create in the upcoming decade? I intend to be more careful of my reading commitments so I don’t bail on anyone. To that end, I have readalongs already scheduled for the next 9 months (!), with space for Reading the World as well. Ideally, at any point in time, I’d be reading one novel, one nonfiction book, and one poetry collection.

  1. I have ‘The Luminaries’ by Eleanor Catton. No idea is was published in 2013 though. Agree on the cover.

I’m going to *try* to read more out of my comfort zone – next year….

    1. I didn’t realize it was a 2013 book, either, until I searched for a list of books from that year. It FEELS like it just came out yesterday. 😮
